What inspires me ?
Literature has always fascinated me. Since childhood, I have taken a particular interest in reading books on various topics, written by authors like Sir Arthur C. Doyle, Agatha Christie, J.K.Rowling, Enid Blyton, etc. who have inspired me to pen all my creative thoughts.

It was a stormy night and past midnight. The heavy rain rattled the windows. And I was turning and tossing around in bed, unable to sleep.

I sat up. It was 1:00 am. "Oh! Why had mum and dad gone out tonight?? When they know that I can't sleep without them!" I thought angrily. Who wanted to go with them anyway?! Uncle and Aunt's anniversary. Dad had called "Sorry…sudden storm…spend night here... blah blah!!" Ugh! I hated late night parties.

A sudden sound of distant thunder broke my thoughts. I climbed out of bed and raided the refrigerator. Arms full of snacks, I settled on the couch. Switching on the T.V., I picked up the remote. Click… Ch.1 Movie blockbuster-Interview with a vampire…click…Ch.2 Horror serial...click…Ch.3 House on the Haunted Hill! Drats!!! Do they have to show all this at this time of the night? Click…click…click…Ch.36 Nickelodeon. Fair enough…
Quarter of an hour later, I had finished all my snacks and was slumped across the couch. An extremely boring opera had replaced Nickelodeon. I yawned and closed my eyes…
THUD! I woke up with a start. Gosh! What was that? The clock read 3:00 am. All was quiet and calm. Except for nature, of course!
I rubbed my eyes, pulled out Harry Potter from the shelf and settled down again. Minutes sailed by. An hour later, deeply immersed in the book, though I was, I looked around. I felt goose bumps on my arm. A sudden realization of being home alone gave me the creeps.
SQUEAK! "Gulp!" That sounded from the kitchen. Bah! Must be the rats. Or was it? I crept up to the kitchen. I slid open the door slightly and peeped in. Everything was dark inside. As my eyes rested on the window, my heart gave a horrible jolt! A circular patch was wiped clean on the window as if done by somebody who wanted to have a good view inside. I quickly bolted the kitchen door, secured all the windows and nervously sat down glancing at the hall window now and then.
Suddenly there was a knock on the door. My hands went cold and my heart started beating very fast. I almost cried in fear at what I saw through the peephole. A tall man with an overcoat and hat, which hid his face, stood outside.
I let out a small squeak of terror and ran to the phone. I picked up the receiver…It was dead!!! "Oh no!" I looked around desperately. "Ah ha!" an idea popped into my head. I ascended the stairs and made my way to my father's bedroom. I took out his cricket bat to use as a defence weapon and went to the door again.
He was still there! And there was someone else as well…. a lady. I felt alarmed. What were these strangers doing here in the dead of the night? I backed away from the door as I saw the handle moving up and down. He was trying the door! Suddenly he started banging the door with his fists. I ran to my room and locked the door. On my table, I saw my cell phone! My heart leapt with joy! Why hadn't I thought of this before?
To my surprise, the moment I switched it on, it started ringing! Relief swept over me. It was dad's number. "What are you doing Penny? Why did you switch off your cell? We…"
"Dad!" I interrupted him. "There is someone outside the door. They are trying to break in. Come home fast, Dad, help me"………………………………. "Dad?" "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA" he burst out laughing. I felt puzzled and angry. Here, I was almost crying with tension and fear and he was laughing, enjoying himself at the party? "DADDY! SOMEONE'S FORCING IN AN ENTRY AND YOU ARE…" I heard something outside. Laughter? Had they got in? I opened the door and tiptoed to the hall. The door was still locked. But someone was definitely laughing outside.
With all my courage, I opened the hall window and looked outside. There were my Dad and Mum, almost howling with uncontrollable laughter.
I ran to the door and opened it. There stood the stranger in the overcoat along with the lady still laughing. There stood the intruders…my parents!!!
