| Happy
is the man who acquires the habit of reading when
he is young. He has secured a lifelong companion
of pleasure and inspiration. He always has a pleasant
occupation of leisure moments, so that he never
feels bored. Ruskin Bond once said "King's
treasures are not filled with gold and silver, but
riches much more valuable than these --- knowledge,
noble thoughts and high ideals. Poor indeed is a
man who does not read". |
| Reading
gives the highest kind of pleasure. Some books we
read for pleasure and amusement for example, good
novels. Which must have their place in everybody's
reading. When we are tired, or the brain is weary
with serious study, it is healthy recreation to
lose ourselves in some absorbing story written by
a master hand. |
| However,
to read nothing but books of fiction is like eating
nothing but cakes and sweet. As we need plain wholesome
food for the body, so we must have reading for the
mind. We can choose according to our tastes There
are many wonderful books on history, biography,
religion, travel, science, philosophy which we ought
to read, which will not only give education but
pleasure. Nor should poetry be neglected. Poetry
gives us beautiful imaginings clothed in lovely
and musical language. |
| I
myself have a good collection of the age old classics
and the brand new books of today. Classics such
as Herman Melville's 'Moby Dick', Stephen King's
'Rose Red' which still sends a chill down my spine.
New age books such as JK Rowling's 'Harry Potter'
filled with enchanting tales and surprise. However
my most faithful and favorite companion is my encyclopedia
containing a lot of information collected through
hard work and research. |
| Thus,
books are our most faithful friends. Our human friends
may change or die, but our books are always patiently
waiting to talk to us. They are never cross or unwilling
to converse, as our friends sometime are. No wonder
a book reader becomes a "book lover". |
