HINDI FILM - A FORMULA FOR LIFE?!

| What
inspires me to write? |
| My
name is Rasika Shetty and I'm a student of 12 COM.
B. For a person like me who believes strongly about
her beliefs in various aspects of life like love,
friendship, duties, responsibilities, sacrifice,
hard work and determination, the difference between
right and wrong and the very thin line between life
and death, I feel through my writings I will be
able to convey some of my deepest thoughts, which
could change a person's perspective of what life
is all about, for better than for worse. |
| What
inspires me |
| The
basic desire to express myself in every way! |
| A
hill station - boy meets girl - goes in search of
her - finds her - they fall in love! - Parents reject
- fighting scenes - happy ending - all's well that
ends well! Ever heard of this concept before? Sounds
like a TYPICAL HINDI MOVIE. First of all, the concept
is trash according to me! I think it really degrades
the growing of a relationship between a man and
a woman. All those kinds of relationships like falling
in love at first sight are completely ridiculous.
In Hindi movies, they depict the woman's status
as so small; she hardly has a role in any of them.
The only thing she has to do is run around trees
and sing songs and laugh a little showing their
figures always slim. |
| Hindi
movies are unrealistic! Why you ask? Because it
never talks about real life situations. There are
only a few films in parallel cinema, which actually
portray the life of some people. For example: -
Zubeidaa. This is one movie I truly enjoyed watching.
In all Hindi movies, the girl at first is dancing
around wearing the shortest skirts with a 21st century
kind of attitude and once she gets married, suddenly
she forgets about all that, wraps a Banaras - ki
- sari around her and is completely committed to
her husband and is waiting for him with a cup of
chai! Well excuse me!……… I thought when a man accepts
you, he is supposed to accept what and who you are
and not what he expects you to become. |
| And
then there is the typical "Saas - Bahu" saga's.
They make the saas look like such a witch that forget
acting; you won't be even able to watch a movie
with her in it. I know… I know… I'm talking too
much and only about the female protagonists of a
movie. But hey! These are the facts. Wake up to
them. The actors are a completely different story.
They fall off buildings, cliffs and meet with an
accident in cars and buses and still survive without
a single bruise on their bodies. Well do I call
that a miracle or the jobs performed by stunt co-ordinators?
The "Hero" is walking on a road and starts singing
and suddenly a whole lot of other people on the
other side of the road come and accompany him in
a song & dance sequence accompanied by a band (god
knows where that came from) leaving all their work
and jobs and a half day's salary behind just to
dance with him! Are the directors going to come
to my house now and place me under house arrest
for coming up with such opinions and putting them
forward? Because if I put my opinions forward, its
putting them out of business for a long time! Better
still have your lawyers call my lawyers!! |
| An
entire movie is about pure entertainment with songs,
dance sequences, a good story, a little bit of thrill
and an all rounder. I'm not saying I completely
dislike watching Hindi movies but to watch a sensible
one and a worthwhile one is also what I'm trying
to convey. In olden days, our movies used to be
classic and elegant. Then an era came when we were
trying to out-smart Hollywood in the west, which
turned out to be a complete folly because our society
was not even that advanced. Then came the formula
of having long titles that would ensure a movie's
success … well with that thought I hope the producers
and directors learnt a lesson. Nowadays, I am truly
happy to see that our movies are increasingly improving
as to new trends, which are entering into the film
industry. And this has happened only because of
the true convictions of the people. And credit should
not only go to the story-writers and producers but
also to the actors and actresses for putting their
foot forward and not accepting to work in movies
which literally have no meaning. |
| So,
Is the Hindi film a formula for life or not? Well,
that question goes unanswered because it depends
upon a number of factors. First, the kind of movie,
what kind of story and many other factors. Yes,
we can be inspired by other people's lives and how
they conducted it but it cannot be copied. You can
always plan for the future but you never know what
the future lays ahead for you. A depiction of someone's
life is completely different from experiencing it. |
