Hurricane takes I.H.S by Storm |

Legendary
cricketer Kapil Dev visited the Indian High School on
07 Sep.2008. Kapil Dev's visit to Dubai was organized
by the Dubai Sports Council and the Right to Play Group.
This charitable programme is supported by an international
team of top athletes from over 40 countries.

The
cricketing hero was welcomed in the school by the Hon.
Vice Chairman, Dr. L.M. Pancholia, Mr. Sunil Singh,
Member of the School Management Committee and Mr. Ashok
Kumar, C.E.O. He was then led on to the school grounds
where an excited throng of boys and sports stars waited
to greet him.

Students
from more than 50 schools were invited to participate
in the programme. A short, friendly cricket match was
organized on the school grounds between the Kapil Dev
XI and the Indian High School XI. The Kapil Dev X1 team
was made up of 11 students nominated by invited schools
while I.H.S students made up the team bearing their
name.

| Later
in an inspiring address to a packed hall of students and
staff in the Sheikh Rashid Auditorium of the school, Kapil
Dev enumerated the advantages of taking an active part
in sports and physical education while in school. He said
"love for sports should be a way of life and students
should not shy away from hard work". He encouraged
students to participate actively in sports and said "…no
matter… (whether it was)…academics or sports,
hard work, discipline and dedication will take you to
higher levels of achievement". |
| He
also encouraged teachers to plan education and sports
as a joyful experience in a student's life. "Whether
in education or sport, we need to be fully focused in
what we are doing. Then there is no reason for confusion.
If this is the method adopted then you are not far away
from success". He admitted his journey in the field
of sports had been a very tough one but added that he
had enjoyed every moment of it. When one of the students
asked how he felt on winning the World Cup, he said it
was the same experience as when students stood first in
class. Kapil Dev thanked the school and the Right to Play
Group for the organizing his visit and making it a memorable
trip. |
| The
I.H.S family were honoured by Kapil Dev's visit and left
with warm memories of a great all rounder and a very charming
and down- to- earth sports star who had succeeded in giving
a new spirit to the students for achieving greater goals
in education and sports. |
